2023

Welcome to Afro-Expo Cartagena!

We celebrate the diverse beauty and rich traditions of Afro-descendant music, art, food, dance, fashion, scholarship, and activism from around the world.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to showcase and contextualize the vibrant Afro-Latino culture with cultural practices from the African Diaspora and Africa, creating a complete picture of the continent and its global Diaspora. We are proud to be produced by the Afro-Inclusion Equity Development Initiative (AIED), uniting African people for the development of Africa and its Diaspora in response to the UN Decade of People of African Descent and the priorities and goals of the African Union Agenda 2063.

WE CELEBRATED

At Afro-Expo Cartagena, we celebrate the diverse beauty and rich traditions of Afro-descendant music, art, food, dance, fashion, scholarship, and activism from around the world. Our festival provides a unique opportunity to experience the power and richness of the African Diaspora while enjoying the beauty of Cartagena, Colombia.

JOIN US

For a week of seminars, workshops, and musical performances featuring international artists and local performers. As one of the largest economic blocks on the planet, the Diaspora and Africa have an annual spending power projected to reach $75+ trillion by 2050. Afro-Expo Cartagena provides access to this expanding Afro-descendant footprint in tech, agriculture, textiles, finance, politics, entertainment, and sports, offering a front-row seat to this global market.

OUR FESTIVAL

Also showcases the legacy of the African Diaspora in Latin America. With more than 12,500,000 Africans kidnapped and trafficked to live as enslaved people in the Americas during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, the genetics and cultural practices of the people of Latin America were forever altered. We honor this legacy by presenting a film festival produced and featuring African-Diaspora filmmakers, as well as a visit to San Basilio de Palenque, the first free slave settlement and sanctuary for freed African slaves in the Americas.
